Connecting a MIDI keyboard

Browser support, permission, input selection and the actual MIDI pad mapping.

Connect the input you need

  1. Connect a keyboard to your device. Open AirChord → MIDI input in a browser supporting Web MIDI over HTTPS.
  2. Press Connect MIDI and review the browser permission request. Access is requested only on your action. Select an input device.
  3. Play a white key. If the input disappears, reconnect it and select it again. On-screen pads work independently of MIDI.

Pad control, not a piano

White C D E F G A B keys trigger pads 1–7 in the current AirChord key. Every octave repeats those pads. This is not absolute-pitch input: MIDI C need not sound as C.

Black keys, MIDI clock and pitch bend are ignored. Positive Velocity triggers the normal pad level; zero releases it. CC64 sustains notes; CC120/123 releases that channel. Drone retains its usual latch; Release MIDI notes clears it.

Disconnect and limitations

Only the selected input is used. The app does not open MIDI outputs, send messages or use SysEx. Connection and device names are not saved in projects.

Disconnect MIDI stops listening but does not revoke browser permission. Leaving the tab releases MIDI notes; return before playing again. If Web MIDI is unsupported or access is denied, use screen pads. This guide does not promise compatibility with every physical device.

The guide does not start audio or change projects. If your studio is already open in another tab, return to that tab to continue your session.
