AirBass: a bassline

Notes, Gate, Slide, synthesis and Follow Chords while keeping your manual pattern.

Start a bassline

  1. Open Jam → AirBass. Use Example pattern or activate steps yourself. Clicking a step adds a note or turns it into a rest.
  2. Select a step and choose Note, Velocity and Gate. Manual notes span C1–B3. Gate is the proportion of the step for which a note is held.
  3. Enable BassSequencer and press Play. AirBeat leads the tempo. Adjust bass level, Swing and sound.

Accent, Slide and your own sound

Accent strengthens attack. Slide joins adjacent notes without retriggering; the synthesis Glide control sets the sliding time. For separate notes, disable Slide and shorten Gate.

A sound preset changes synthesis parameters while retaining the pattern. Under Synthesis controls, Waveform provides the source, Cutoff sets filter brightness and Resonance emphasizes its frequency. Envelope and Decay shape filter movement; Attack and Release shape note onset and ending. Drive adds saturation; Sub adds low-frequency weight.

Start with a preset and adjust one control at a time. AirBass Undo/Redo let you compare. Clear notes empties the pattern; keep a project copy before a major experiment.

Follow Chords keeps your manual part

Manual mode plays the notes shown in the grid. Follow Chords changes performed pitch from the harmony while retaining source notes, rhythm and edits. Returning to Manual restores the source part.

Root uses the root note; Root + Octave alternates it with an octave, Root + Fifth with a fifth, and Chord Tones uses chord notes. Register selects the range. Preview source note plays the stored pitch, not the harmonized result.

Jam harmony priority is held chord → AirLooper → ChordSequencer, with the tonic before a selection. Arrangement uses only its chord blocks: gaps and AirChord Mute produce rests; Bass Solo keeps the harmonic source. A song with no chord blocks uses the tonic.

Put bass in the composition

  1. Add or select an Arrangement bass block.
  2. Press Capture AirBass. Its phrase, synthesis and Follow Chords settings are copied into the block, keeping the block name.
  3. Edit the block independently, on the shared composition tempo. Arrangement Undo restores a block edit; AirBass Undo restores the Jam source.
